Hungary on the maps
23. Pethes Dávid: Magyar ország. Debrecen, 1804.
The first great Hungarian classicist of note, Ézsaiás Budai, studied at Oxford before taking up a post at the Calvinist College of Debrecen and producing, with his students Gábor Erőss, József Pap, and Dávid Pethes, Hungarian-language maps for schools based on the best contemporary atlases available. Their Oskolai magyar új átlás, sponsored by the leaders of the College and elders of the Calvinist Church, is also an invaluable document of the Hungarian Language Renewal movement.
