The terrain is specific even in Hungary where you can find totally different
kind of terrains. The east border of a terrain the river Ipoly (Ipel'), the frontier
between Hungary and Slovakia in most part of Nograd county. The closest town is
Balassagyarmat 4 km to the East. In 1987, the last 2 days of a most famous Hungarian
competition HUNGARIA TROPHY was organized near this terrain (the finish was only
some hundreed meters from the east edge of this map, Ipolyszög), but it was
a totally different area.
The height difference on the whole new map is less than 15 m. Index contours were
not drawn, not to emphasize so small differences, the equidistance is only 1m.
It's a flood area and a plain of Ipoly river, but in the last years it was not
flooded. Only very small part is cultivated, there are mainly open areas and small
poplar woods with very different runnability. Marshes are not so typical, only
one large is nearly uncrossable.
One of the strangest thing comapring other Hungarian terrains the lack of path
network, the lack of definite relief features.
This is the first orienteering map about this terrain.
