Following the nationalization of the main railway lines of Hungary, tariffs were adjusted to promote Hungary’s exports and the concessions and discounts provided gave a boost to the economy. Later, the carriage of both people and goods was restructured on a sectional basis (the introduction of “zones”). Payment by zones vastly increased the railways’ income.
