The first detailed map of Hungary, supplemented by its compiler’s list of almost 20,000 place-names, we owe to János Lipszky. It shows important points on the borders of the country newly established on the basis of astronomical observations and measurements by Imre Dániel Bogdanich, astronomer at the Buda Observatory. In the production of the index of places Lajos Schedius, the professor of aesthetics at the University of Pest, also played an important role in delineating the Hungarian counties. The international popularity and prestige of this map is amply demonstrated by the fact that it gave birth to Hungary, Transylvania, and surrounding Countries. Edinburgh. 1817.
