Hungary on the maps
22. Heymann, Ignaz: Post-Karte von Ungarn und Siebenbürgen. Triest. 1804.
Scheduled mail coaches (diligences) were first established in Hungary in 1750 and made possible regular travel as well as the transportation of letters and parcels containing money and valuables. Mail coaches were under special jurisdiction: in 1783 Joseph II placed the postal service in the hands of the local authority of Buda, while in Transylvania the posts were administered by the Gubernium itself. As the postal service in Hungary went from strength to strength a number of maps of postal routes were published.
