Hungary on the maps
4. Ortelius, Abraham: Ungariae loca praecipua … Antwerpen. 1573.
János Zsámboki (Sambucus) published his map Ungariae loca praecipua [...] in Vienna in 1571, making a number of corrections to Lazius’s map. This was revised by Ortelius and published, with the same title, in his atlas mentioned above between 1573 and 1612. This version by Ortelius saw publication by Mattheus Quad under the title Hungariae loca precipua […] in Cologne in 1592. The Zsámboki map of Hungary published in the atlases of Ortelius was issued by an unknown publisher under the title Ungariae loca praecipua [...], but in this the names of 104 settlements were taken over from Mercator’s Hungaria, so that this edition is extremely rare. This latter work was also adapted by another unknown editor for a woodblock map Descriptio regni Ungariae, una cum aliis finitimis regionibus, ac provincialis. etc., around 1596, of which only one copy is extant.
